Yes, You Can Take Kids to Las Vegas—And They’ll Love It!
I’ll admit it—Las Vegas was never on my radar as a family vacation spot, but we took the plunge this summer and I was surprised at how much fun we all had! With the right planning (and early nights), Vegas can actually be a great family destination.
Where We Stayed: Tahiti Village Resort & Spa
We booked a stay at Tahiti Village Resort & Spa, which is located off the Strip. The resort is marketed as family-friendly, and it definitely had some pluses, but overall I have mixed feelings.
What we liked:
- Spacious rooms—great for traveling with kids
- On-site pizza was a hit (we ordered it more than once!)
What didn’t work so well:
- Pool was always packed
- Pool towels ran out daily
- Uber rides got pricey if we missed the shuttle or went off-route
- Fire alarm went off twice during our stay
- Housekeeping knocked at 9:59am on checkout day—and even earlier at our friends’ door!
Next time, we’d likely stay more centrally on the Strip for better walkability and just plan on keeping our nights early and low-key.
Our Family-Friendly Vegas Itinerary
We planned one show per day, which gave us plenty of downtime and flexibility while still getting to experience the magic of Vegas.
Day 1: iLuminate
This high-energy, light-up dance show was a perfect kickoff! Our daughter is a dancer and absolutely loved it—but honestly, we all did. It’s creative, visually stunning, and totally family-appropriate.
Day 2: KÀ by Cirque du Soleil® at MGM Grand
Wow. Just… wow. This was hands-down the highlight of our trip. The scale of the production, the theater setup, the music—it was absolutely epic. If you’re going to splurge on one Cirque show, KÀ is the one to see.
We had dinner beforehand at Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill (conveniently located right across from the theater), and our kids actually begged to go back another night. Great food, amazing kids’ menu—highly recommend.
Day 3: Tape Face
After laughing at him on America’s Got Talent, we had to see Tape Face live—and he didn’t disappoint. Heads-up: audience participation is a big part of the show, so be ready! Our 8-year-old son was in stitches the whole time.
Dinner afterward at TAO Asian Bistro was another winner—delicious food, fun atmosphere, and great cocktails for the adults. Perfect way to wrap up the night.
Day 4: Nathan Burton Comedy Magic Show
For our final day, we booked a late flight and squeezed in one last show—Nathan Burton’s Comedy Magic. We had front-row seats, which thrilled our 8-year-old (he’s obsessed with magic). Our daughter wasn’t as excited to be that close—she caught how a few tricks were done! But overall, it was a fun, family-friendly way to end the trip.
Final Thoughts
So, should you take kids to Las Vegas? Surprisingly, yes! With a few smart choices—like daytime shows, central accommodations, and early bedtimes—it can be a fun and memorable trip for the whole family.
Ours loved:
- The bright lights and iconic Vegas energy
- The Hershey’s Chocolate World store
- The Bellagio Fountains
- Shopping and sightseeing without the late-night chaos
Vegas probably won’t be our go-to for every family vacation, but it was a fun surprise and one we’ll definitely talk about for years to come!
